Work through it alone, at your own pace, in your own space.
One difficulty keeps taking up more space than you want it to.
You return to it from different angles. You think, explain, research, wait, revisit conversations, look for practical fixes or try once more to understand what you have missed.
You may already have given it considerable care, intelligence and effort. The fact that it remains unresolved does not mean you have failed to try hard enough. The difficulty may be genuinely complex.
It may contain something that has already happened, something that is still happening, something you do not yet know and something that could still change. Held together, they can feel like one large problem requiring one solution.
That is where stuckness can deepen. Thought and effort keep going into the whole difficulty, while the part that needs to be accepted and the problem that may be solved remain difficult to see.
The Reality Check is a complete two-and-a-half-hour micro-retreat you guide yourself through, anywhere, at your own pace.
It gives you a structured way to examine one difficult reality and establish what you are actually dealing with. You will separate what has already happened from what remains unresolved, distinguish what needs to be accepted from the problem that may be solved, and see more clearly where your participation can matter.
The work is yours and stays private. There is no group, no call, and no one watching you process.
Across the retreat you will:
Bring one real difficulty into clearer focus.
Recognise the change you have wanted and the thought, effort and hope you have already invested.
Separate what you can reasonably establish from interpretation and what remains unknown.
Distinguish the situation you are living within from the specific problem that may be addressed.
Notice what your repeated effort has been trying to change.
See where your participation can matter and what change may depend upon.
The retreat draws on psychological reflection, body awareness and carefully sequenced retreat design. It has been built to make meaningful clarity possible within a shorter experience, with focused written exercises, visual mapping, guided audio and deliberate pauses.
Settle into the retreat before the deeper work begins, with an optional guided grounding practice.
Bring one recurring difficulty into words and recognise the change, effort and hope already held within it.
Separate what you can establish from interpretation and uncertainty, then distinguish the situation from the problem within it.
Give what you have recognised room to become personally real, with optional audio support for the acknowledgement.
See where your participation can matter and what change may also require, depend upon or remain outside your influence.
Bring the work together in a concise Reality Check and close without forcing a decision or immediate next step.
This retreat is for you if you:
Have one difficulty that keeps returning, despite the thought and effort you have already given it
Know something needs to change but cannot clearly see what actually needs changing
Feel as though you have tried everything, yet remain unsure what you are truly dealing with
Find facts, interpretations, unanswered questions and desired outcomes becoming tangled together
Are willing to consider that part of the difficulty may need to be accepted before the actual problem becomes clear
Want meaningful clarity before moving into decisions, conversations or action
Value privacy and think most clearly with structure, time and space of your own
A clearer account of the difficult reality you brought into the retreat
A cleaner distinction between what you can establish, what you have interpreted and what remains unknown
A clearer view of the situation that needs to be accepted
A more specific understanding of the problem that may be addressed
Insight into where your thought, effort and energy have been going
A grounded view of where your participation can matter and what change may also depend upon
A concise Reality Check you can return to when the difficulty begins to feel tangled again
The retreat ends with clearer recognition rather than a decision or action plan. What follows can begin from a more accurate understanding of what you are dealing with.
Before You Begin
The Reality Check is a self-guided micro-retreat for private reflection. It is a reflective and educational experience, not therapy, counselling, medical care, legal advice, financial advice or crisis support.
The retreat asks you to look honestly at one difficult reality and question how you have understood it. At times, this may feel uncomfortable, particularly if the difficulty involves real people, something that has already happened, an outcome that matters deeply or uncertainty you cannot yet resolve.
The experience is paced and grounded, with deliberate pauses and optional audio support. You move through it in your own time and can pause, skip or stop any part whenever you need to.
You remain responsible for your own wellbeing, choices, interpretations and actions throughout. If you are currently struggling significantly with your mental health, facing immediate danger or become emotionally overwhelmed, prioritise appropriate professional support before beginning or continuing.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT REMOTE RETREATS
“I was sceptical about whether I’d get anything from a retreat that was remote and self-led. How wrong was I. It was easy to follow, really well structured and asked all the right questions to draw out the important stuff.
The way the retreat was put together helped me look at patterns I had carried for a long time from a completely different perspective.”
becky - the responsibility release
“I gained so much clarity. I’d never have thought I could achieve that by myself, without physically being in a group or having a one-to-one coach.
It was a really powerful, nurturing and insightful experience.”
sarah - the choice point

Allow approximately two to two-and-a-half hours. You can complete the retreat in one sitting or over more than one sitting. The sections are carefully sequenced, so continue through them in order and take additional pauses whenever you need them.
No. Choose somewhere reasonably private where you can think, write and listen without frequent interruption. You do not need to travel or create an elaborate retreat setting.
You will need the digital retreat guide, a journal or notebook, a pen, water and a snack. Headphones are useful for the optional audio practices. No specialist materials are required.
No. The guide explains each exercise clearly and leads you through the retreat step by step. Some prompts require writing, while others ask only for reflection, observation or a pause.
Pause and give yourself time. You can step away, use the grounding practice, skip anything unsuitable or stop the retreat completely. If you become emotionally overwhelmed or need more support than a self-guided resource can provide, prioritise appropriate professional help.
Remote Retreats are reflective, self-guided experiences for emotionally stable adults. They are not therapy, counselling, crisis support, medical care, legal advice, or financial advice. If you are in crisis, currently need professional mental health support, or are facing immediate danger, this may not be the right container right now.
Yes. You may return to the same difficulty after time or circumstances have changed, or use the retreat to examine a different difficult reality. Begin with one specific difficulty each time.
Therapy, counselling and coaching happen in relationship with a professional.
The Reality Check is completed independently, without a therapist, coach or group. It offers a structured reflective process rather than personalised advice, diagnosis, treatment or direct guidance about what you should do next.
Yes. The retreat is supplied as a digital guide, which you can use on a screen or print at home. There is no printed edition available to order.
